IMPACT RATING (IR)

Impact Rating (IR) is a proprietary composite metric developed by NHL Analytica to measure a player's overall contribution beyond raw counting stats. It combines scoring efficiency, shot quality, puck possession impact, and durability into a single score from 0–99.9.

SKATER FORMULA
IR = (PPG × 40)
+ (PTS/Shots × 25)
+ (max(0, PM+10) / 2)
+ (GP / 10)

Capped at 99.9
GOALIE FORMULA
IR = (W/GP × 40)
+ ((SV% − 85) × 4)
+ ((5 − GAA) × 2)

Capped at 99.9
IR GRADES
Elite— IR ≥ 90
Above Average— IR 75–89
Average— IR 60–74
Below Average— IR < 60

IR is calculated using full-season regular season or playoff data from the NHL Stats API. Minimum games played thresholds apply to filter out small sample sizes.
